Overview
A retirement visa in Spain, officially known as the Non-Lucrative Residence Visa (Visado de residencia no lucrativa), allows non-EU nationals to obtain a Spanish residence permit without carrying out any work or professional activity. It is an ideal solution for retirees, financially independent individuals, and families supported by passive income or savings generated outside Spain.
The visa application is submitted at a Spanish diplomatic mission in the applicant’s country of residence and usually takes 4–6 months to be processed, after which the applicant must enter Spain and complete their residence card (TIE- Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero – Foreigner Identity Card) registration.
Family Inclusion
The spouse/partner, dependent children under 18 years of age, and elderly parents may be included in the main application, subject to additional financial requirements. Eligible family members are granted residence permits aligned with the validity of the main applicant’s authorization.
Eligibility
Spain’s Non-Lucrative Visa applicants must be non-EU nationals and demonstrate:
- sufficient passive income, equivalent to 400% of IPREM (Indicador Público de Rentas de Efectos Múltiples) for the main applicant, which is approximately €2,400 per month
- Additional income of 100% of IPREM, which is, approximately €600 per month) for each dependent family member
- Adequate savings or capital, typically around €30,000 for the main applicant and €10,000 per dependent, to cover living expenses

Acceptable income sources include pensions, rental income, bank deposits, and shareholder profits. The applicant must not act as a managing director or be actively involved in business operations. Board membership or passive shareholding is permitted.

Proof of Financial Means
Applicants must provide official documentation covering the past 6–12 months, showing that funds are stable, accessible, and sufficient:
- Bank Deposits: Bank letter confirming ownership of the account and that funds are fully accessible; bank statements or account turnover for the past 6 months.
- Passive Income: Pension letters confirming monthly amounts; payroll slips for the last 6 months; investment dividends or interest.
- Rental Income: Title deed of property; rental contract; bank statements showing rent paid directly from the tenant’s account.
- Investment Certificates: Stocks, bonds, or other liquid assets; illiquid assets such as real estate must be supported by substantial liquid funds.

Application Process
Bayat Group’s compliance team conducts a comprehensive due diligence review, including background checks, KYC documentation preparation, assessment of financial resources, and an initial eligibility evaluation for the Non-Lucrative Visa route. This ensures the applicant meets Spain’s IPREM financial requirements and residency criteria.
The applicant signs a retainer agreement with Bayat Group and works with its legal team to compile all necessary documentation. This includes bank statements, proof of passive income or investments, health insurance coverage, personal documents, criminal record certificates, and translation/legalization of supporting documents.
Bayat Group assists in completing the official visa application form (EX-01), Form 790 – Tax model, and preparation of the motivation letter. The team ensures that all documents meet consular requirements and that supporting evidence of financial means, personal documents, and health coverage is accurate and complete.
The completed application is submitted to the relevant Spanish diplomatic mission, along with the applicable visa fees. This stage includes the submission of biometric data, verified personal documents, proof of financial means, health insurance, and payment confirmation of the Form 790 tax model.
Upon consulate approval, the applicant receives the Spanish Non-Lucrative Visa, allowing entry into Spain. The residence permit is then issued according to Spanish immigration regulations.
